Derived from select breeds of Merino sheep, this wool is defined by its incredibly fine diameter—typically less than 18.5 microns—making it finer than human hair and exceptionally gentle against the skin.

Braeside Wool is incredibly soft, it is silky to the touch, ideal for luxury garments and next-to-skin wear. Our merino wool is thermoregulating, it keeps you warm in winter, cool in summer. Braeside premium merino wool is also biodegradable and renewable. It is a natural alternative to synthetic fibers. Braeside wool is odor-resistant and moisture-wicking, merino wool is famous for staying fresher for longer.

Production
Careful Breeding and Genetics
The journey begins with selectively bred Merino sheep, chosen for their ability to grow ultrafine, uniform fleece. These sheep are raised in clean, open pastures where conditions promote healthy fleece growth.
Ethical Farming Practices
We are committed to animal welfare and sustainable land use. Sheep are regularly shorn (typically once a year) in a humane process that ensures their comfort and health, especially during warmer months.
Precision Shearing
Our expert shearers harvest the fleece in a single, clean piece to maintain fiber integrity. Only the finest sections of the fleece—typically from the sheep’s back and sides—are reserved for superfine grading.
Grading and Sorting
The raw fleece is meticulously graded by hand and machine, assessing fiber diameter, strength, length, color, and crimp. Only the top 1–2% qualifies as "premium superfine"—ultrafine, bright, and consistent in quality.
Washing and Combing
Fleece is washed (scoured) to remove natural oils and impurities, then combed into fine, aligned strands. This step enhances the wool’s softness and prepares it for spinning.
Spinning and Finishing
The clean wool is spun into fine yarns using state-of-the-art machinery, then woven or knitted into lightweight, breathable fabrics. The final textiles are finished with minimal chemical treatments, preserving the natural qualities of the fiber.
